Look Through Someone Else’s Eyes

Sometimes you have to take the time

to look through someone else’s eyes.

Then you’ll see what they do,

not the things you want them to.

When you take the time

to look through someone else’s eyes.

In order for our love to grow

it takes the effort of two.

how deep does your love flow?

Is it as deep as my love for you?

I remember a time not long ago

like the stars, we shone brightly together

and I believed that like the stars

we would go on shining forever.

Then these dreams were swept away

by the hardships of time,

but losing my hope and faith in you

was my only crime.

If only we could see,

the world through each other’s view,

then we could finally be,

understanding, loving and true.

Sometimes you have to take the time

to look through someone else’s eyes.

Then you’ll see what they do,

not the things you want them to,

when you take the time

to look through someone else’s eyes.

How much should I take

before I have taken too much?

How often can one heart break?

Have I not given enough?

But instead, we cling to our own,

perspectives, biases, and lies,

afraid to admit we’ve grown,

apologize and compromise.

Instead, we hold so tight,

to our own perspective and fear,

We build walls up high,

And let our love disappear.

You say I know very little,

but I know some.

You say I do very little,

but it’s better than none.

Sometimes you have to take the time

to look through someone else’s eyes.

Then you’ll see what they do,

not the things you want them to.

When you take the time

to look through someone else’s eyes.

We were once bright as stars,

shining side by side,

but now we’ve built up walls,

and let our love divide.

I try very hard,

though you say “not at all”.

I try not to stumble

when you say I’ll fall.

Can we take the time to try,

to look through each other’s eyes,

to listen, and empathize,

and let love be our prize?

Once we shone like stars,

Together, side by side,

But now we’re lost in the dark,

Has our love slowly died?

Sometimes you have to take the time

to look through someone else’s eyes.

Then you’ll see what they do,

not the things you want them to.

When you take the time

to look through someone else’s eyes.

If I said, “I’m sorry.”

I don’t believe you’d believe me

but that’s OK.

if that’s the way it has to be.

I understand you’re angry.

You have a right to be.

Now I see what you see

when you look at me.

So let’s take the time to see,

each other’s pain and joy,

and maybe, just maybe,

our love will again deploy.

I know it won’t be easy,

and trust may take a while,

but if we truly want to be happy,

we must let go of our denial.

Sometimes you have to take the time

to look through someone else’s eyes.

Then you’ll see what they do,

not the things you want them to.

When you take the time

to look through someone else’s eyes.

Sometimes it takes a shift in view,

to see the good in one another,

with the combined effort of two,

our love can finally discover.

So let’s be brave and take the chance,

In each other’s hopeful embrace,

To break down our walls and dance,

And let love fill up this empty space.

It won’t be easy, that’s for sure,

If only as I forgave you, you could forgive me

Though trust may take a while to restore,

but maybe we could be happy.

If only we could see,

the world through each other’s view,

then we could finally be,

understanding, loving and true.

Sometimes you have to take the time

to look through someone else’s eyes.

Then you’ll see what they do,

not the things you want them to.

When you take the time

to look through someone else’s eyes.
