To my child

The sun has set, the day is done,

darkness creeps, bringing in the night,

The time for dreams has just begun,

The moon casts down its gentle light.

Here in my arms, a child so dear,

I hold you close, so soft and warm,

Sleeping soundly, free from fear,

I’ll shield you from life’s storm.

The world can be cruel and cold,

But know that I am always here,

life can harbor struggles untold,

I’ll chase away your every fear.

As you grow up and face your trials,

May you never feel lost or alone,

As you journey through life’s many miles,

In my love, you are always home.

And when you hold your own child tight,

Remember all the love you’ve known,

Rock them gently through the night,

And let that love be proudly shown.

Let the moon shine down on you,

And know that I will always be,

in your dreams shining through,

the one who loves you endlessly.
