Words, labels, lazy, defiant, rebellious,
spirits crushed, dreams made treacherous.
Stubborn, unmotivated, how to feel,
worth diminished, less real.
understanding, different, autistic, ADD,
Neurodivergent, dysgraphic, anxiety,
celebrate uniqueness, unrestrained.
No longer isolated, no longer alone,
Connected to community, finally home.
“I’m in my own world,” I heard them say,
Zoned out, careless, inattentive, in the way.
now I realize, with joy in my heart,
that my differences are strengths and vibrant works of art.
Words, careless, and sloppy lose their sting
and empathy, and acceptance takes wing.
In labels that fit, a sense of peace,
A reassurance that it’s okay to release.
“Why do we need labels?” some ask,
ignorance hides behind a mask.
those who discover their identity’s name,
find courage, spirits ignited, aflame.
“I’m not alone,” I exclaim with delight,
My soul is now able to reach new heights.
I embrace who I truly am, without despair,
Knowing I have a place, a purpose to share.
abandon the hurtful, dismiss the cruel,
and instead, celebrate each unique jewel.
in the power of words, there is great might,
To heal, connect, and make spirits ignite.
treasure the labels that bring understanding,
Foster a world where empathy is commanding.
For in this complexity, we’re all connected,
Through the words we use, humanity is reflected.
