News Poetry: Evil does not sleep

Always be watchful, Evil does not sleep,

Maine people’s voices, in the largest hearing, heard,

Twenty-three hours of testimony, truth stirred.

Rushed in darkness, without a thorough review,

A disrespect to process, to the people, me and you.

Amidst whispered debates, a tempest born.

For those on the Judiciary Committee,

Denied their voice, denied their query.

New amendments rushed, without due review,

Ignoring the process, and the rights they once knew.

Always be watchful, Evil does not sleep,

In the dark of night, a death bill was conceived,

full-term abortion, the Maine people, were deceived,

Silent whispers, hidden agendas at play,

While questions from opponents were brushed away.

In the dead of night, a bill takes form,

LD 1619, great heartache and concern,

Expanding abortion to full term, people mourn

For answers, for clarity, for a thorough debate,

In the darkness, Maine voices Radicals abate.

Always be watchful, Evil does not sleep,

The Judiciary Republicans, with concern and care,

Seeking to understand, the amendments they bear.

But denied they are, the chance to inquire,

To question doctors, the voices they desire.

Abortion at full term, sending children to the grave,

Outrageous and intentional, this calculated move,

To silence the opposition, concerns to disprove.

For one of the most consequential laws in place,

Should be debated openly, in transparent grace.

Always be watchful, Evil does not sleep,

Medical, and legal experts, knowledge denied,

Opponents silenced, questions set aside.

Pro-choice doctors, insights dismissed,

The House Chair’s words, a deepening abyss.

In the dead of night, it seeks freedom to enslave.

The legislative process, a sacred trust we hold,

The voice of the people and desires must be bold.

here, they are denied, questions left unsaid,

As evil lurks silently, undermining what’s ahead.

A bill in the shadows, evil does not sleep.

A rush in secrecy, without the light of day,

A hasty decision, undermining the legal way.

For the people’s will, the legislative process,

Shackled by shadows, hopes grow less.

Together, united, stand watchful and strong,

against the outrageous, intentional, words ring true,

A disregard for justice, for me and for you.

Save lives stand united, words sharp and clear,

Demand accountability, bring truth near,

Let us not forget, that evil does not sleep,

Voices silenced, questions denied,

As new amendments, were hurriedly applied,

A bill of consequence, of great weight,

The legislative process met a cruel fate.

Defending the values held dear, for so long.

The Maine people sent them with trust,

Deserve transparency, their voices robust,

In this realm of politics and deceit,

The truth is twisted, the facts discreet.

We must remember that evil does not sleep,

Watchful we’ll be, with vigilant eyes,

Standing for truth, as the darkness defies.

Evil may try, but we’ll never retreat,

The voice of the people, we will not sleep.
