News Poetry: Pride Parade

In the midst of controversy and strife,
recorded now in history from Seattle’s Pride,
A parade of colors, an event so wide,
But actions occurred that left hearts dried.

Men rode on bikes, their bodies bare,
In front of children, a sight unfair,
Twitter users raised their voices high,
Questioning laws and wondering why.

Nude cyclists on their bikes, these men rode,
Children watched, intent? Innocence to erode.
“Are there no laws?” Twitter users ask,
Society has gone mad, an unsettling task.

“Exposing oneself in public,” they cried,
As society seemed to go astray, to the dark side,
When will we rise, as decent Americans true,
And halt this madness, this lunacy too?

“Demonic weekend,” exclaimed with disdain,
Voices of disapproval, cause a strain,
Pushing back against actions they despise,
Arrest the offenders, the criminals in disguise.

“We’re’ coming for your children!” the chants pour,
Against these actions, we all abhor.
The exposure to minors, a criminal act,
Voices rise, demanding justice, in fact.

A street preacher faced an unruly crowd,
insults, and lewd actions, their voices loud.
Activists surrounded, barking like hounds,
Drowning out the message, as chaos surrounds.

The preacher with his Bible, torn apart,
An act of aggression, a vandal’s start,
His Bible torn, without provocation or cause,
A symbol of faith defiled, to applause.

Debauchery and destruction marred the day,
Lines are drawn, as opinions sway,
Excuses no more, the dye has been cast,
Decry the degeneracy, and choose wisely, fast.

Yet amidst the chaos, let us not forget,
The good people who stand without regret,
Those who embrace understanding and love,
From all cultures and beliefs, rise above.

It’s the crazies who sow discord and strife,
Destroying progress and woman’s rights in life,
While distractions and unrest fill the air,
America suffers, caught in the snare.

In New York, another chant emerged,
“We’re here, we’re queer,” words surged,
A call that shocks, but is not so new,
Blunt rhetoric from the gay left grew.

San Francisco’s chorus, in days past,
Promoting acceptance, a role to last,
But extremist views began to invade,
Pushing their agendas, and foundations to raid.

Ordinary lives of gay Americans, we sought,
A place at the table, equality sought,
But the far-left ideologues had their own quest,
To overthrow pillars, to disrupt and infest.

The reality ignored, the damage immense,
Utopian dreams, their sole defense,
Hijacked the movement, twisted it around,
Psychologically disturbed egomaniacs abound.

“We don’t want a place at the table,” they shout,
“We want to turn it over,” with fervor and clout,
The quest for equal rights, lost in the storm,
As extremists tarnish, causing public alarm.

In the midst of division, let’s find common ground,
Reclaim Pride from those who only astound,
For if we don’t act, the public may revolt,
Unite against extremism, let compassion be our bolt.
