Call me Neurodivergent

Existence is a luxury, opinions are slight,
Language holds power, dark and bright,
some words bring pain, a venomous dart,
others bring comfort, to heal a wounded heart.

Lazy, defiant, rebellious, words at play,
Speech that can sting and push us away,
amidst the shadows, emerges a light,
A label that embraces, igniting inner might.

Neurodivergent, A word that does not say weak,
A term that lends strength to the meek,
A complexity of understanding, a thread to bind,
In a community united, bias does not blind.

This label does not limit us, it sets us free,
grants us acceptance, to be you, to be me,
No longer alone, no longer concealed,
We find comfort in knowing the truth is revealed.

No longer judged for our scattered thoughts,
celebrated for the brilliance our minds brought.
Understanding ourselves, an essence so rare,
No longer burdened by judgments unfair.

embrace these words, with open hearts,
Recognize their power, the healing they impart,
For in the vast spectrum of human existence,
Labels can offer love, and a sense of persistence.

Let’s rid ourselves of the hurtful words we use,
And instead, uplift, inspire, and diffuse,
With words that empower, that heal, that unite,
We’ll create a world where acceptance shines bright.

For those who found solace, who’ve discovered the way,
Let them rejoice, let their spirits sway,
“I’m not alone, it’s okay to be who I am,”
These labels give us a new way to understand.

So let us celebrate the power of this term,
Neurodivergent, our identity we must confirm,
if as disabled or diseased, you have felt the sting,
In neurodiversity, the peace that belonging brings.
