Celebrate Autism

As a beacon of hope, we need to stand tall,

For younger Autistics, so they won’t feel small.

A world that sees us as equals, that understands,

Accommodate differences, where we can thrive

A chance to educate, to shatter misconceptions, to cope.

I choose to celebrate what society labels as “a disorder”

I don’t dismiss or minimize the struggles I face,

I know the challenges that autism can trace.

It may seem strange to others, and they may question why,

Some Autistics require 24-hour care, their needs profound,

But that doesn’t mean our voices should be drowned.

The complexity of our minds, For me, it is a gift

Autism is a spectrum, a wide array of presentations,

Including an internalized view, and a unique formation.

My Family is Autistic, and So are my friends. We are happy.

Let’s encourage society to embrace diverse communication,

To create an inclusive space, a harmonious relation.

The conversation is shifting, it’s time to make a stand,

Autism is not something to pity or cure,

It’s a different neurotype, of that we can be sure.

To understand the beauty in diversity, to embrace it.

Let’s celebrate the strengths, the talents we possess,

With our hyperfocus, and attention to detail, we impress.

The true challenge lies in a society’s acceptance,

Of our needs, our differences, the essence.

Stimming, our way to regulate emotions and calm,

Let’s celebrate who we are, in a world that accepts us all,

But change is happening, though slowly it may be,

A world that understands, where we can all be free.
