American Concerns Part 1

American Concerns by Salie Davis

In the home of the brave from sea to shining sea,

I stand as an American, There is no better place to be.

Across this nation, in our voice, the winds of truth shall sail,

not bound by party, but only if you are a seeker of the truth.

Ponder the ways of our nation, for the sake of our youth.

In the land of the free, dreams are balanced by what is right,

Yet our nation is torn, its people, asleep were tricked into a fight.

Speak your mind, wake up, and let common sense prevail!

Not as red nor as blue, but as Americans together we must stand,

We must question why wealth accumulates in the ruling hand.

Elected officials, why, when once humble and plain,

do they leave as millionaires, it’s a puzzling gain.

You must speak your truth, don’t be silenced by fear,

If serving the people is their earnest endeavor,

Why should wealth for themselves, endlessly gather?

Elected officials, with promises so grand, who understands

how their riches grow in shadows, like grains in desert sands.

Your vote matters, your voice matters, so let it be clear.

The math indeed on many levels, does not align with grace,

Why, as so many struggle, do others in power find their place?

The middle-class strains, becoming poor, and the poor are left behind,

While the rich and elite become richer and in their opulence dine,

while we go hungry for food and justice, the diversity we demand,

without it causing divisions among us, but a nation torn asunder,

race, religion, and more, benefits the politicians and powers their plunder.
