Of Youth and Age

In youth’s embrace, we dance with glee,
In Spring, a bargain is made with destiny.
Youth, since youth is all for gladness,
To one older, we must now confide,
The girl, in her heart, she hides.

In summer’s warmth, ‘neath the sun’s embrace,
between land and sea, a tranquil space.
the surf, a world of madness,
With diligence, we toil and strive,
A little dance for days now archived.

Youth, since youth is all for gladness,
Unbeliever, heed its fleeting madness.
Unbelievers, doubts will fly,
As comes fall, we bid farewell all around,
Come, Queen of Ages, wear your regal crown.

Not in dance but in song, we find reprieve,
We’ve worked for a dollar, now we believe.
As the years go rolling by.
Our voices harmonize, side by side,
Let me grow lovely, and our hearts provide.

In middle age, we find wisdom’s sage,
To earthward we turn, with grace, engage.
A bargain struck, ‘twixt past and now,
Content at forty, we’ve found our way,
On reaching the age of fifty, we do not sway.

Fifty years spent, in the ebb and flow,
Memaw, in youth’s afterglow.
To one older, I humbly bow.
Old women, wise in their autumn leaves,
The old woman’s whispers, a tale that weaves.

Strange is it not, the whispering truth,
On growing old, in the hands of youth.
Youth, since youth is all for gladness,
In this cycle of life, we find our stage,
Youth is a cage, beyond winter, an eternal age.
