Lessons learned from Covid, then and now

In Covid’s grip, I will not forget, the winter’s chill did start,

In that strange time, the strange remains, anger in me blooms,

I will remember how politics and health entwined.

As sense eluded, they still elude, and uncertainty looms.

While in high-risk places, we must take our stand.

A paradox of politics, our lives trapped in these rooms,

In hospitals and clinics, they say we must tread,

In Covid’s grip, our hearts censored, in silent tombs.

While with our loved ones, we’re advised to dread.

Through screens, we met, our dear ones we beset,

No church bells rang, no weddings did we attend,

Apart we lived, still apart, no joys in isolation’s net.

Grandchildren were sent afar, why this truth, we can’t defend.

No holidays, no funerals, even now, goodbye’s we forswear,

Graduations lost, even years later, the “make up” does not mend,

In solitude, then and now, our burdens we continue to bear.

In solitude’s embrace, in censorship, we must suspend.

Telehealth was ignored, Covid’s still here, it’s a game,

Politics and health continues to exist, in a tangled knot,

Propaganda divides us, the new norm, yet we’re all the same.

Telehealth is still ignored, while we’re left to rot.

No hugs, no weddings, we still live in fear, what a shame,

Grandkids no longer visit, oh, what a mess,

In isolation, once in body, now in mind, this new norm is insane.

If not Covid, then race, sex, war, for power in politics, it’s all a guess.

No right, no wrong, It’s all so confusing, like a crazy strafe,

Mental health ignored, Humanity ignored, it’s causing stress,

In this new world order, the new norm, we’re all agape.

In this crazy world, power and propaganda, we can’t digress.

So let’s stay strong, Remember, don’t forget, and hope for the best.
