To the Helper: a Villanelle

You, the helper, are not alone,

For in this world,

there are others that will bring you home.

Silent voices and unheard cries,

Seeking for someone to hear their sighs.

You, the helper, are not alone,

As you reach out to others in their pain,

Others will also reach out to you again,

there are others that will bring you home.

Offering a hand to lift you up,

And guide you through the stormy rough.

You, the helper, are not alone,

It’s okay to be afraid, to feel lost,

To stumble and struggle at great cost,

there are others that will bring you home.

For in these moments of great despair,

We learn to be brave, to be aware.

You, the helper, are not alone,

there are others that will bring you home.
