Turn The Light On – a Hymn (original)

Turn a light on in the Spirit

that God might call upon your heart.

Leave that light on for the Spirit

that God not pass by seeing your house dark.

As a babe in faith, newly born

from the darkness I was torn.

Brought into the light, brighter than day,

I met the Spirit when I did pray.

Lord help me turn a light on in the Spirit

that you might call upon my heart

and help me keep that light on in the Spirit

that you not pass by seeing my house dark.

Still a child in faith, I turned off the light

returned to the darkness, deeper than night.

I found no comfort, even in the day.

I was alone until I did pray.

Lord help me turn a light on in the Spirit

that you might call upon my heart

and help me keep that light on in the Spirit

that you not pass by seeing my house dark.

I have a light switch in my Soul

God supplies the power but I have control

I can turn it off and from the Lord be gone

but only the Spirit can turn it back on.

Turn a light on in the Spirit

That God might call upon your heart

and leave that light on for the Spirit

that God not pass by seeing your house dark.
