The Mountain Climber to his wife

I hear your words, echoing through the void,

A plea for forgiveness, a hope to avoid,

The pain and the hurt that we’ve both felt before,

But now it’s time to open up the door.

You speak of my height, of my lofty goals,

My standards, my dreams have taken tolls,

But I know that I’ve faltered, I’ve stumbled and fell,

And I’ve caused you hurt, that I can surely tell.

So let’s take a pause, and listen to our hearts,

For in there lies the truth, where a new start,

Can be made, with forgiveness and love,

A new chapter written, from the heavens above.

I hear your call, across this great divide,

And I know that we can, once again, stand side by side,

With high hopes and dreams, but also with grace,

Forgiving the past, with a new smile on our face.

So let’s take a pause, and listen to the sound,

Of our hearts beating, in unison profound,

For in that stillness, we’ll find the way,

To mend what was broken, and love each other today.
