original Christmas song

Oh what can I give my sister for Christmas,
when I haven’t got a dime to spend
maybe if I ask my Mother
she’ll have two nickles to lend.
But what can I buy with ten pennies?
Ten quarters now that would be fine.
But how can I borrow ten quarters
when I can’t even pay back a dime?

Oh what can I give my brother for Christmas,
when I haven’t a dollar to spend?
Maybe if I ask my Father,
He’ll have four quarters to lend.
But what can I buy with ten dimes?
Ten Dollars now that would be fine.
But how can I borrow ten dollars
when I can’t even pay back ten dimes.

Oh what can we give our children for Christmas?
A gift to honor God above.
Nothing wrapped up in fancy paper
can compare to his forgiving love.
Maybe if we’re more like Jesus
in everything we say and do.
They will grow to know we love them
and God will always love them too.

Thank you God for your gift of Jesus
to help us remember what is true.
That you were born and died for our sins,
That we may be eternally with you.
Yes you were born and died for our sins
and we will be eternally with you.
