A Mothers Chore

In the world of endless to-dos, it’s clear,

In the daily grind of chores and care,

“breaks” for moms are seldom what they appear,

The weight of expectation lingers in the air.

A never-ending mission that seems to last,

Should not be seen as some relaxing space.

Cleaning is not a break, it’s a constant task,

Showering alone, a fleeting moment’s grace,

Grocery shopping is a necessity, it’s true,

Going to the bathroom, a simple need,

hardly a break when there’s so much to do,

not a respite from a life bound to speed.

These are the basics, the routines, the norms,

however, society’s expectations fail to see.

Yet somehow, in them, a mother’s spirit storms,

The strain and sacrifice, the silent plea.

To normalize a “break” as these daily things,

To expect gratitude and a heart refreshed,

Is to misunderstand the weight that motherhood brings,

is to overlook the stress, leaving mothers stressed.

They’re run down, exhausted, overstimulated too,

Let’s acknowledge, appreciate, and understand,

being a mother is a job that is never through.

In their daily battles, moms need a helping hand.

Let us redefine what breaks for mothers truly mean,

In return for the love and care that mothers constantly give,

Let us offer support and kindness in between,

Mothers deserve more than chores, they deserve to truly live.
