To the Reader

Rhymed Version.

To the Reader – Salie Davis

Using sharp words, cutting thoughts, a heavy tole,
in bleeding ink, I carve out a piece of my soul,
I put it all on the line as I cast it free,
Into the vast sea of humanity.

The current of emotions draws you closer with the tide,
using my soul as bait and a wave of words to guide,
I wait impatiently for a nibble with a hopeful start
A bite from someone with a poetic heart!

I reel you in, you barely struggle, my catch is near,
you’re trapped in a net of stanzas, I feel your fear.
Gasping for air, I caught you fair, my prize.
Yet, in your eyes, a sadness lies,

Bulging eyes, my words lured you in, revealing a hidden pain,
You were caught unaware, by the beauty in my poetic refrain.
My words were a net baited with my soul, just a small part,
captured emotions, just enough to wound your heart.

We connect in shared pain, with pity’s touch, as the poet knows,
A compassionate act, to end your pain, I pull you close.
Yet, mercy whispers, If I let you go, you will heal.
And I release you back, with a tear we both feel.

I have learned when fishing in the sea of feelings, vast and deep,
Though I share a piece of my soul, your soul is yours to keep.
So with compassion, I do a kind release and I set you free,
I will catch you again, till then, swim in life’s poetic sea.
