I did not know: original draft

I first experienced death working as a CNA. It was hard for me to consider my feelings of sorrow for people I knew but did not know.

I did not know your sorrow but with a word

I knew sorrow in the news I heard.

In a blink this time is past.

(long ago is yesterday)

Like a wink, it does not last.

Now you’ve gone away.

I did not know your sorrow.

I did not know your fear.

I did not know tomorrow

I would not find you here.

Though I need not cry

You’re not really gone.

And this goodbye

won’t last long.

When I see you next tomorrow

Joy will cause my tears.

God will heal all our sorrow

and God will calm our fears.

I will see you then.

As heaven’s gate is opened wide

and we will journey in,

walking side by side.
