The Incubus: age 17 (with original art from poem)

By Salie

The night is dark and reeks of death

as the wind howls a tear-stained scream.

A child alone in her feathered bed

sleeps on peacefully,

Unaware of the rhythmic beating

of black clawed wings

descending from the sky.

The Incubus senses this child’s soft purities

as the bloody look of lust fills his eyes.

They warned this child sleeping silently

of the midnight horrors that lay in wait.

This blue-eyed keeper of family secrets

still unaware of her coming fate.

So the beast descends upon her

as she begins to move in restless sleep.

The stench of this demonic creature fills her.

In helpless agony,

her soul shutters and weeps.

She opens her eyes only once

to behold who this invader might be.

She sees before her a chameleon

in all of its malignancy.

A chameleon,

yes an evil-spirited chameleon

to take the shape of a once-trusted protector.

That is the only solution

in this young child’s mind.

She obeys its commands

for fear of its powers,

this young keeper of secrets,

of dark bloody secrets,

lies silent as her soul

obediently dies behind her smile.

Even after this monster leaves her

naked in her bed the nightmares stay.

They will never go away.

They warned this child

if she dared share these secrets

that the Incubus would return

to punish her for her crimes.

This blond-haired keeper of family secrets

that burden her soul with each night time.
