In our borderland’s vast expanse,
migration takes its stance,
Since Biden’s oath, a surge occurred,
the border edges, an illegal herd
a nation of hopes, stories unfold,
A tale of contradictions, by media untold,
border’s edge, surge not contained,
many seek refuge, resources drained.
Ten thousand a day, an alarming decree,
Cross into America, seek to be free.
Yet in the heartland, a different plight,
American families struggle, day and night.
As the border opens, a steady flow,
American families face an uncertain blow,
Plummeting into poverty, losing their homes,
Living in campgrounds, in struggle they roam.
Food pantries are strained, unable to meet,
The needs of families, in despair’s seat,
While the government extends a helping hand,
To those at the border, on unfamiliar land.
Through rugged terrains, they make their way,
Hoping for refuge, day after day,
Seeking opportunities, a chance to belong,
In the land where dreams are said to be strong.
Questions arise, confusion takes hold,
Why does the imbalance seem so cold?
American families yearn for support,
While resources are diverted, to another cohort.
In this complex landscape, emotions collide,
in the midst of the drug and human trafficking tide,
For compassion knows no borders, they say,
But what of those who struggle each day?
Let us not turn a blind eye to the plea,
Of American families, in desperate need,
For in the richness of this land so vast,
There’s room for empathy, a chance to outlast.
Some call for compassion, an open embrace,
Welcoming those who yearn for a new place,
While others raise concerns, voices of doubt,
Wary of the challenges that lay throughout.
Let us bridge the divides, seek common ground,
Extend a helping hand, compassion unbound,
Address the challenges, both near and far,
For its disunity and injustice that truly mar.
American families, their dreams held high,
Deserve a chance to flourish, under the same sky.
