The Ace of Hearts

Be kind, dear souls, this is not about Pride,
where unique orientations are often misunderstood,
kindness and understanding could do so much good.
Asexual individuals, Aces, should not have to hide.
Through a spectrum of differences—lacking sexual desire,
our path diverges from the typical sexual fire.
Let’s talk about sex, don’t shy away,
sexual orientation, as an Ace, may be new to you,
Like the spectrum of hues, love’s scope in emotion rings true.
knowledge and discourse can light up the way.
Break the shackles of silence, let’s unveil,
the mysteries that surround us—let romance prevail.
Seek not assumptions, but understanding instead,
An Ace is not LGBT, though some may say,
Yet the definition of queer comes our way.
For asexuality’s label may bring anger and dread.
Queer, once an insult, is now an identity found,
The weird, the neurodiverse, has always been around.
Unravel the enigma, in truth open hearts wide,
I am a Christian, by the blood saved by God’s grace,
I am not LGBT, though you call us queer, I am an Ace.
Let understanding flourish, let us walk by your side.
Don’t assume, seek knowledge, allow empathy to mend,
It’s not about Pride, seeking God’s guidance—truth defend.

Lgbtqia2s+ and the acronym keeps growing. The above poem was written out of the human need to understand. Sexuality is society’s obsession, both forbidden and sought after, yet never normalized. Do no harm. Most things can be summarized within the normal range under that term. Do no harm. Sexuality is natural it does not cause other people harm. Humans make it complicated with our need to label and distort all things. Once sexuality is used to control, for power, to cause another harm, then it is no longer normal, healthy sexuality. Many people could read the definitions in this acronym and think, yeah that makes sense. However understanding, even agreeing with one concept can not be lumped into a single movement, claimed by the most harmful to represent all of sexuality. If we truly want to explore sexuality then we also must include Hetero and acknowledge that it is the most scientifically logical. Villainizing what is now considered cisgender is self-defeating. I am Cis/hetero, but after analyzing the terms, I can identify as an Ace of Hearts. I have friends, and family who have decided to embrace other identities. They are loved and do no harm. Seek an understanding of the human condition, seek to understand and accept yourself, and do no harm.
