News, stories come and go,
Some linger longer,
while others swiftly flow.
I have this thought in my mind,
That the Philadelphia shooting
will soon be left behind.
a tale of despair,
A shooting that shook hearts,
leaving us in prayer.
The headlines will fade, disappear,
Though horrific and awful,
For reasons not entirely clear.
The suspect, Kimbrady Carriker, they say,
A Black Lives Matter supporter,
This fact they do not wish to portray.
Social media whispers of his gun-toting memes,
A cause for gun control?
A complex web of narratives it seems.
Facebook photos reveal a different sight,
A narrative they won’t repeat.
A bra, a women’s top, and earrings shining bright.
A braided hair that defies society’s norms,
BLM, identifying as a woman?
A puzzle of contradictions, taking different forms.
But amidst this confusion, one truth remains,
The media will twist to push the agenda.
The lives lost. Grief, Heartache, and pains.
In the vast news cycle, attention diverts,
Will this story fade away,
tragedies outside the agenda, short spurts.
Let us rise above the news cycle’s sway,
let justice be sought,
stand united, seeking truth in the fray.
