In a world that loves small talk’s light,
I stumble, struggling with all my might.
“You’re not great,” they say, words so stark,
At weaving conversations in the dark.
My sense of humor, they claim, is awry,
Unable to see the laughter in my eye.
“You lack the wit,” they confidently assert,
As if humor were a talent to divert.
Making eye contact, a challenge immense,
Avert my gaze, they take offense.
“You can’t connect,” they swiftly decree,
Unaware of the depth hidden within me.
Communication, they judge me as poor,
Yet beneath the surface, there is more.
“You’re not good,” they harshly state,
Ignoring the strengths I hold innate.
Flexibility eludes me, they proclaim,
Rigid, they say, without a vibrant flame.
But within a structure, I find my peace,
A realm where my talents find release.
Diplomacy, a skill I supposedly lack,
Yet honesty resides in every track.
“You’re not diplomatic,” they chide,
“too trusting” and blind to lies, I cannot hide.
Neurodivergent, a label that may bind,
But within these traits, treasures we find.
Unmasking becomes a journey to see,
The strength and worth in being uniquely me.
For every “not,” let me uncover,
A positive light, a resilient lover.
“You’re great at conversations deep and profound,”
With honesty, my voice does resound.
“Your boldness and refreshing truth,
Are traits we need to embrace, uncouth.”
“You excel in planning, routines, and control,
Your focus unmatched, a commanding role.”
Logical and determined, fighting for what is right,
Guiding us with rules, shining with insight.
“You remind us to change, adapt, and grow,
Your voice matters, more than you know.”
So let us cast away the negativity’s haze,
Embrace the strengths in our unique ways.
For neurodivergent souls, let it be known,
We shine brightest when our true selves are shown.
