Weathering the storm: age 30

I heard the forecaster predict the storm.
I laughed away the warnings. I ignored the signs,

the darkening skies. It’s not happening to me,
my hopeful.

I have everything, everything I ever wanted.
Then the storm came crashing.

It would not be denied, casting dark clouds across my soul.
I lost everything, all I never wanted.
The forecaster predicted a storm upon my life,

and the long dark night that awaited me.
I cannot ignore it’s happening,

my fearful.
Looking out at the darkness, no future to see,
but when the lightning flashes for a moment
It makes the day come out of the night.
I am reminded that all is not lost
in the darkness of the storm,
just hidden from my sight.
I cannot let fear overtake me.
In that brief moment of light
I saw the world around me.
A brief moment, then deafening thunder.
A brief moment, then it was gone.
No matter how dark and stormy the night,
I must remember, that there is a world out there
and the storm won’t be too long.
I will wait for the next flash of light
to remind me to hold on.
I am waiting for the break of day
when this dark storm in my life will be gone.
I pray It won’t be too long.
