The Symphony of Small Wonders

In the stillness, under twilight, little things sing.
Fireflies flicker, a snare canticle bright,
Night moths dance in the velvet of night.

Small wonders in the dusk as night falls.
A tree toad’s song, a soft serenade,
Echoes in the shadows the trees made.

Overtones hum, an Irish blackbird’s call,
Birds gather in whispers, the making divine,
From the spark of a star to a branch on the pine.

Rooks caw their secrets to the
Blackbird who gives advice to the bluebird in flight:
“Sing your heart’s song, embrace the night.”

Nightingales, nightingales, near the old house,
Buzzards wheel high in the limitless sky,
Limmit soars as the moon bids goodbye.

White dove watches with wild black eyes.
Loon’s haunting call on a mirror-like lake,
Nightingales whisper as shadows awake.

Lark greets the dawn with a jubilant cry,
Fish-hawk swoops, talons keen in the light,
Hummingbird darts, a blur of delight.

Heralding dreams, birds on the wing, as
Sandpiper speaks to a sparrow so small,
in the language of shorelines, the birds call.

and sing lullabies to a phoebe bird perched on a line,
Until Thrush before dawn, in the still of the morn,
Sings of new life, light from darkness, day reborn.

The thrush, the darkling thrush, sings with might,
wild geese, sing chorus with each and every sound.
Nature’s canticle, pure and profound,

Each note, a poem, a play, a story, a song,
In this symphony of small wonders, we find
echoes of magic in the melody of the mind.

Table of Contents constraint poetry project. In this constraint, a poetry anthology originally published in 1925 was used. In each chapter section, titles were organized by theme and used to create a new poem.
