The storm

The forecaster warned of a storm ahead,
But I, my hopeful, laughed instead.
I thought I had everything I ever wanted,
So I ignored the signs of the skies, undaunted.
But the storm crashed down, an unstoppable force,
Dark clouds cast shadows across my course.
I know that the break of day will come.

I lost everything I never wanted, it seemed,
A nightmare when I had hoped for a dream.
The forecaster predicted a long, dark night,
And I, my fearful, am now in its sight.
I look out and see only darkness and gloom,
No future to see, no light in the room.
When this storm in my life will be done.

But then the lightning flashes, for a moment brief,
And it brings day from the darkness, a glimmer of relief.
It reminds me that in the storm, all’s not lost,
Just hidden from my sight, living comes at a cost,
I cannot let fear take hold of me,
In that moment of light, I clearly see
The light will soon overcome the dark’s fate,

The world around me, a brief moment of hope,
But deafening thunder comes, and I must cope.
No matter how dark and stormy the night,
I know that the storm won’t last in its might.
I wait for the next flash of light to come,
And remind me to hold on, to overcome.
I pray it won’t be too long.
