A Child Buried

I still lament the song played like an instrument
out of tune, a funeral dirge, my tears, the years spent
without, in a box dried out, cracked by despair,
Lost to care, in my casket, choking on bad air.
Behind closed doors, I, silent, wept
A song of pain, into darkness I stepped.
“Lay her to rest,” they softly pled,
the unseen struggles within my head.
For all they knew, I could be dead,
Alone in sorrow, dry tears I shed.
My existence– perceived as an ugly strain,
A cry that stained like acid rain.
I wept alone in my death, with no ears to lend,
to hear the wounded note on parchment I penned.
In weakness, my lament took flight,
Hidden from the world’s cruel light.
Yet with no sympathetic notes in the beat,
just the echo of my heart’s defeat.
I still resent that box, that darkened abode,
Where silence screamed and tears bestowed.
Though I dug myself out of that bitter score,
resentment for those who buried me lingers evermore.
