The Heartland
Mother of men your heartland beats strong,
where the lakes are deep and rivers run long.
Beneath your hills, the tall woods grow,
and the quiet strength of life runs through.
The rivers divide the fields from wooded land
where mountains in silence next to the cities stand.
Their timeless watch is a steadfast grace,
a shelter for the human race.
The hands that work, the hearts that beat,
shape the rock at the mountain’s feet.
In summer’s green and winter’s frost,
to know the worth of nothing lost.
O’ motherland of rugged sons,
where work is prayer until the day’s done—
You mold the men who heed your call,
to stand, to rise, to never fall.
The river flows, both wild and free,
May she remain free for an eternity.
Carry our dreams across this country-wide,
through America’s heartland—let freedom reside.
