The Spirit of Ug

When Earth was young dwelt thereon
a beast named Ug.
In ancient glade,
a creature, a shadow, a dream,
with eyes that glowed.
A wanderer, who would stray,
Perpetuum mobile,
a perpetually moving thing, he’d rove,
in endless circles, ever to and fro,
with nimble steps,
‘neath heavens draped
in twilight hue.
Now, some would sneer,
with critic’s disdain
at visions strange, across his face.
“impressionistic sap!” they’d scornful cry,
Yet Ug saw worlds where imaginings
beyond earth did lie.
Thus critics’ jabs, as sharp as they,
could never pierce this brightly soul.
For Ug, with heart wild, vast,
in impressionistic wonder wandered past.
Perpetuum mobile, his spirit strong,
a wheel of dreams of time and myth.
The critics chide with scornful eyes,
curtained lenses.
Yet Ug, with nimble steps and starry gaze,
a wanderer, who would stray,
through time and boundless space,
through quiet depths
beneath the darkened skies,
where forms did shift
and colors took to flight.
His spirit roams.
