A Ballad of Partings Stars

A Ballad of Partings Stars

I know the stars, they call my name,
soft susurration flickers in silver flame.
If I must go, then let it be—
a journey sung in melody.

A ballad of the two knights bold,
who sought a love that would not fold,
but time, like wind, will wear away,
and leave us longing for yesterday.

A boy, a cry, a shadowed fate,
a fantasy that came too late.
After a little while, the maiden sings,
a minuet of Mozart’s strings.

Beneath the hush of a November night,
a prayer drifts slowly in pale moonlight.
The past remains—a ghostly tune,
a song of the princess, lost too soon.
