Reminiscing with the Grave Diggers

Reminiscing with the Grave Diggers

At the entering of the new year,
Recalled in a midnight rain,
A broken thought still lingers,
A jog-trot pair crashing weddings vain.

A woman’s fancy, fleeting, strange,
A sign-seeker lost in haste,
At home sometimes in a dwelling
Where memories fade without a trace.

An ancient to ancients speaks in hush,
At the railway station—waiting, alone.
A thunderstorm in town, then fire after,
A death-day soliloquy, unheard, unknown.

After the journey, after the visit—rain,
According to the mighty working,
Ah—are you digging on my grave?
Get to it now, stop your shirking!
