Hey You!
Hey you, with light skin, judgments entwine,
I hear their propaganda, Their false narratives,
They say you are all Karens. You’ll accuse us of crimes,
Stereotypes that are unjust with burdens hard to bear.
Let’s rewrite their narrative, make it our line.
Hey you, with skin bright and fair,
They say you can’t be the victim, cuz you’re white.
Privileged, Racist, White people don’t care.
They claim you’ll call the cops If I look at you.
Fearmongers, I don’t believe what they say.
I remember the lady on the corner
Her skin was pale, her hair was gray,
she smiled at me as I walked to school.
She was not this label, kindness was her creed,
They would have me hate her,
A lesson in humanity is what we need.
Hey you, with dark skin, they say you are violent,
They sow seeds of division, we won’t be confined,
They say you will steal and shoot me in the back,
They are afraid, in unity strength, we will find.
I don’t believe what they say.
I won’t let their words define your worth,
Unraveling prejudice, we’ll break the chain.
For in every heart, kindness takes its birth.
I remember the youth, a gesture sincere,
I still hold close the image in my mind,
the young man picked up the book I dropped
A stranger’s empathy, a gesture so kind,
He smiled at me when I said thank you.
Dark skin and a smile that was warm,
I will break the chains of misconception,
We must be reminded that decency is the norm.
Hey you with light skin, hues so fair,
They say your parents and grandparents enslaved us,
You must carry history’s burden, a debt for life to bear.
They say you owe us. They say you deserve to suffer,
But I won’t let their lies plant division’s seed,
I don’t believe what they say, seeking power they divide us,
Together we’re stronger, that’s what we need.
They lie to start a race war, to keep themselves in power.
They spin tales of blame, seek to control,
I know you are like me, though we are different.
They want us all poor, sowing seeds of discord to take their toll.
They want us to blame each other for what they have done.
But we’re wiser than they assume we are,
Let us decipher the histories distorted, the battles we have won.
Let us move beyond the tales spun from fear’s thread.
We are misunderstood. They twist our words. We are overrun.
Hey you, with dark skin, the skin of deepest hue,
Hold your head high, let your actions speak,
We see the unfounded fears and judgments as untrue.
Empathy’s harmony, let it be spread.
They say you will take what we have,
But we are not pawns in a game of power and might,
They are the ones doing the taking,
We are the ones unmasking the truth, dispelling the night.
They say we must protect ourselves from you,
Yet deeper we delve, the truth unfolds,
they are the ones causing all the harm.
We have shared futures and dreams that are bold
They know if we stand together, we could defeat them.
Together we rise, against the falsehoods we stand,
they try to divide us and keep us apart.
But hand in hand, we’ll reclaim the land.
Hey you, with skin unkissed by the sun,
They play a game of power, sowing seeds of hate,
We are not just a label, not just a name,
our bond is stronger, it’s never too late.
Their narratives are twisted, causing needless pain
We can build a bridge of compassion from far and near.
Let’s rewrite the story, break free from the chains,
Together we stand, where unity abides.
I refuse to be manipulated by their ill-gotten gains.
In shadows or bright light, compassion resides.
We are smart. We are the same, though we are different.
See beyond the falsehoods, rise above,
They want to keep us divided because together we could overcome.
In unity, we conquer, in togetherness, we love.
Hey you, with skin like butter, creamy white
Different yet the same, hand in hand.
Hey you, with skin like ebony night,
Together we’ll heal, and reclaim our land.
Side by side, we stand tall and strong,
For, in the end, it’s the unity they fear,
Different shades, one melody, one song.
The strength of our harmony drawing near.
No longer pawns in their sinister game,
Diverse yet united, formidable together, not apart,
Together we’ll rise, igniting hope’s flame.
We’ll triumph, for the next generation, a new start.
Hey you, with skin as rich as earth,
In a world that seeks to pit us apart,
Defined by our heritage, of infinite worth.
We’re wiser, connected, with love in our hearts.
A beacon of unity, a beacon of light,
United, we’ll rise, like a shining star.
Hey you, light skin, be our morning’s rising light
We are stronger together, to see through their disguise
Hey you, dark skin, be like the moon as it rises at night.
United we have the power to break through the ruling lies.
