Can of Worms

Can of Worms

I opened the can—what a reckless delight!
Prepared for the squirming, the wiggle, the fright.
But there they all sat in a slimy repose,
Like couch-potato noodles in casual clothes.

No riots, no stampede, no worm civil war,
No grand exodus slithering under the door.
Just limp little guys with no plans to rebel—
A can of worms, frankly, it’s boring as hell.

So when they decree a can of worms ban,
I’ll yawn, “To open? I most certainly can.”
The chaos is fiction, the drama a sham…
Worms, it would seem, just don’t give a damn.
