Stay Open to the Hurt

Stay Open to the Hurt

To love invites the piercing thorn,
The grief when others lose their way;
Yet better this than hearts grown worn
Behind cold walls that block the fray.

I’ve walked the vale where sorrows meet,
Where open hearts are prone to bleed,
Where roses bloom at the griever’s feet—
Still faithful to love’s daring creed.

For what are we, if not the flame
That burns to ash, yet still ignites—
A flicker bright despite the rain,
A quiet ache beneath the light.

This winter bears the soul of frost,
But feeling is not felt in vain;
The weight of all that we have lost
is proof that we dared to love through pain.
