I like finding random words when creating a constraint. For example I may decide that I am going to use the seventh word of each paragraph from one page of a random book I pull off my library shelf and open to a random page. If that isn’t challenging enough then I may choose structure rules as well, such as in the above Pantoum above.

About the Author: Sarah B. Royal

Sarah B. Royal’s writing defies convention. Her poetry and prose traverse the boundaries between structure and spontaneity, often weaving together philosophical inquiry, cultural reflection, and personal narrative.
