Love’s Villanelle

Love’s Villanelle

If I might take you by the hand to tell—
of my love, reaching for a lock of hair,
I might still the beat of time as well—

My voice, ringing like love’s silver bell—
Oh, to caress those locks behind your ear—
If I might take you by the hand to tell—

Of how hopelessly in love I fell—
How I have missed your voice like prayer,
I might still the beat of time as well—

To hold you in my arms evermore—Kendall!
My Love! My heart if bursts with care!
If I might take you by the hand to tell—

That my voice, my pen, never shall be still—
For ours is a love unique—most rare!
I might still the beat of time as well—

That we might lay together—love fullfill
Forever breathing each other’s air,
If I might take you by the hand to tell—
I might still the beat of time as well.
