Rain poems in three styles

Free Verse

If on a given day when all of life was sunny, a rain came down and I looked up into the sky and sighed, “I love the rain.”, then a number of days later, a midst heartache and tears, clouds filled the sky, if I were to then sigh, “I hate the rain.”, would you call me a hypocrite?

Simple Rhyme

If I bask in the sunshine’s warmth and light,

And welcome rain with pure delight,

But when heartache brings tears and pain,

My feelings towards rain are not the same,

Would you call me a hypocrite,

If I were to dismiss it?

Or can my heart hold many moods,

And change with life’s shifting hues?

Perhaps it’s not inconsistency,

But growth and learning, constantly,

Adapting to life’s ebbs and flows,

feeling all the highs and lows.

So let the rain fall when it may,

And if I love or hate that day,

Know that my heart is simply true,

To what life brings, both old and new.
