From The Enchiridion of Poetic Grace: True Treasure

True Treasure

The world says, “Run for what wealth brings,”
So they might take a share in turn—
But would you have me trade the King
For ashes that will cease to burn?

If I can keep my honor whole,
And walk in truth, I’ll gladly go;
But not for gain will I lose soul,
Or fall to acts that shame me so.

A friend who stands with conscience clear
Is worth more than a bag of gold;
So help me hold what I hold dear—
A heart that’s faithful, true, and bold.

Psalm 73, Matthew 16:26, 1 Corinthians 3:12–15
