Alliteration
An Alliteration Poem is a type of poem in which the repetition of the same initial consonant sounds occurs in closely connected words. While the repeated sounds often appear at the beginning of words, they can also occur on stressed syllables within words. Alliteration focuses on the sound, not the letter, meaning different letters that produce the same sound can also count as alliteration. The technique enhances the musical quality of the poem and emphasizes particular themes or imagery. Below is an alliteration poem where each individual line focuses on a specific sound that is repeated throughout that line.
Florida’s Fickle Fantasy
Florida’s fierce flowers flourish in fiery sun,
Palm trees proudly parade,
their trunks poised as one.
Salty sea breezes sweep swiftly through the skies,
While waves whisper warm wishes
where white sand lies.
Tropical trails twist toward tall-tangled trees,
Birds break the bright blue
with a bold beating breeze.
Gators glide gracefully, green in the glistening glow,
Cranes call calmly where calm, cool rivers flow.
Sunset sinks slowly, spreading soft shades of gold,
Fishermen, fearless, face fate as tides unfold.
The sun sizzles softly, setting, sights serene,
In Florida’s fickle fantasy, forever green.
