The Passing of Dawn and Dark
Dawn and dark, the wakers from dreams stir,
at the trumpet of the swan, wings at dawn confer.
Glory, glory is given as a reward to the rising sun,
The guerdon of light, for us a new day has begun.
In the early morning fog’s embrace,
White veils of mystery hide the sun’s face.
Day passes too quickly, dusk descends, twilight’s hue,
At the edge of the day, dreams begin anew.
By the margin of the great deep sea,
Twilight evening’s soft decree.
Besides the black water’s reflective sight,
A night piece painted with celestial light.
Thanks from Earth to Heaven’s expanse,
yet too quickly, passes a June night’s stance.
I have cared for you, full moon above,
As I look into the stars, the stars I love.
Yet the night will never stay,
In its passing, we begin another new day
But in its fleeting embrace, we see,
in our dreams the beauty of eternity.
