This exercise grew out of a one-year challenge to write a poem every day. I needed a strong and varied source of inspiration to sustain such a commitment, and working through these titles provided exactly that. Remarkably, the practice continued for two full years before I paused to focus on writing longer poetic epics. To be fair, I allowed myself some flexibility: if I missed a day, I would write two poems the following day.

Some poems are easy to trace back to their source titles, while others are far more obscure. Fusion poetry is not collage poetry. The peoms evolve as part of the art and are not limited by the titles. Sometimes I used entire titles; other times, only a single word. I omitted words, added others, and reshaped them as inspiration guided me. I intentionally did not read the poems in this book, as I did not want their content to influence my choices—and even two years later, I still have not read them, though I fully intend to.

At times, I used an entire themed section as the basis for a single poem. Other times, I broke a section into several poems. Occasionally, I disliked the result and started again from scratch. Consider this your challenge: search WoPoLi for poems where I used this technique—many are labeled, though not all—and then try creating your own.
