Adams Cable Codex

The poem below is modeled on the code words in the Adams Cable Codex. Like many telegrams, extra sentences are added. The Adams Cable Codex also has words whose meanings can be written in. This allows for even more poetic leeway. The Codex includes words from A-S, so I tried to use at least one from each. This is just an experiment, and my own judgment is that it lacks polished style. First is the Telegram with the code words, and second is the full translation.

Aristocrat : at dawn : Inroad : Kent and carry on
Civilian : due to obstructions : Berry : Canter :
Legitimate : anything your soul :
Deadly : I’ll seal the deal before the calm shatters.
Dealing : I’ll make it right, whatever else it matters.
Educate : I’ll be gone before the hour passes prime.
Fairly : I send you not one kiss, but : Gimcrack : Husky :
Impartial : because our love is sublime.
Innermost : Hold back your promise; trust this word from me.
Jewel : Knave wedding things. Call off the plans, return the rings.
Laverat : I do not : Macebearer : Left us standing empty,
swallowed by the doubt. Have you turned away from what we once knew?
Namely : Oddity : Your : Pardon : Quabbling : kisses, you can’t dispute.
I lie if I say, Relent. Sachel.

Wrote you yesterday, at dawn. Have received no reply to my telegram.
If one has not already been sent, then telegraph to me at : Kent, and carry on.
Cannot carry out your instructions due to obstructions. May be able to do better later on.
All goes well. Do not sell for anything your soul.
How soon can you arrange matters?
I’ll seal the deal before the calm shatters.
I authorize you to act for me. Will confirm this by mail.
I’ll make it right, whatever else it matters.
Shall remain but a short time.
I’ll be gone before the hour passes prime.
You need not do anything more about this.
I send you not one kiss
29s. 29 cts. $29 because our love is sublime.
Do not commit yourself, until hearing from me.
Hold back your promise; trust theis word from me.
This is where I say I love you. (Code word blank line for write in.)
Cancel all orders to buy wedding things.
Call off the plans, return the rings.
Tell me you love me too. (Code word blank line for write in.)
I do not Understand you sold out. Is it true?
Left us standing empty, swallowed by the doubt.
Have you turned away from what we once knew?
What is the due date?
Tell me now, shall I arrive too late. (Code blank line for write)
Your Name stands in good repute.
129 kisses, you can’t dispute.
I lie if I say, Am feeling much better.
This is where I end. (Code word blank line for write in.)

The next poem is a telegraphic reinterpretation of what a cable code could be. I used poetic licence in its creation. My initial goal was to create my own codebook, branching off the Adams Cable Codex, with three sections of alternative meanings. This would have allowed for more poetic creation and better style. I simply have too many projects I am working on all at once to do this one as it should be done. Again, this is a quick experiment, and I find the quality poor but fine as an example of the concept. I created the definitions to sound like the original from the code. If I were to invest proper energy, it would have more poetic merit.
