Unfinished Measures

Unfinished Measures

Words wander wide and miss the truth.
Bare figures move in lines, tension between…
heartbeats fade without clear proof.
Loops return but do not bind,
Circles fail to hold the line.

Parallels tilt yet they will not meet,
Almost alive—but not quite.
They fall so close—but incomplete.
Love in parts and broken shares
Feels the pull of strained affairs.

Sharp voices rise, then lose their form,
Back to back but never close,
Loose and restless as a storm.
Past the cracks and past the fall,
Truth stands waiting—past it all.

Dreams hide deep in shadowed light,
Weight hangs heavy as lines grow.
They stir—but never take to flight.
Pause does not complete the thread,
The path runs on where they have tread.

What we promise slips away,
Half-spoken, they drift through,
Sense grows thin and will not stay.
Threads hang loose and trail behind,
Tied to will and to the mind.

Roots are shallow, ground unsure.
Oh the walls we build to keep things safe!
Nothing solid can endure.
Still we search for something whole,
Light beyond the fractured role.

Scales are strained and will not rest,
They turn to cages we can’t escape.
Weighted yet still unbalanced in the test.
Yet null is not an end we see,
It leaves a space of “yet to be.”
