From your children: age 11

by Sally Ann Houston

This world of ours in which we live is heartless and cruel. It is like a raging storm at sea destroying all who are as unfortunate to wander into its path.

We were born into this world as helpless children set upon the tide, forced to face this monster who wished only to destroy us. You held us gently, cradling us in your arms and when the seas became angry because you would not surrender us to our deaths, you stood up tall and held us high above the churning waters and if ever we were swept away from your loving grasp you would scoop us up again and laugh defiantly at the sea.

Through time we have grown to be almost adults ourselves and ceased growing. But we have never ceased to be in the need of love. We still look to you for guidance and protection. We have become a heavy burden to you. Your bones have become brittle with time, Your eyes dull with age, But still you support us.

You, Our mother seem to be our only protection. You have never failed us. And yet for all your love, we could never truly repay you. All we have to offer you in return is our love. Please accept.
