You can drown in a teardrop of rain
or bleed forever on account of a sliver
you can become crippled on account of a bruise
or blinded at the brightness of silver.
each hurt received is only a small pain
and goes unnoticed by the giver
when the one they “love” is who they abuse
They expect her to be the forgiver
and for her to love them as her only one
like a precious stone forever
while her tears become torrents and continue
with no one to deliver.
So beware those that shine bright as the sun
and those that bathe in a tear-stained river
They will blind you, bruise you, cripple you too
and leave you drowning downriver.
The earliest version of the poem stated the last line
“For their hearts are as distasteful as liver.”
Which I changed a little while later simply because it changed the mood too much.
