The Pilgrim Poet

The Pilgrim Poet
John Bradburne, born in 1921,
A soldier, searcher, a mystic one—
There, at Mutemwa’s leper place,
He lived in love, and wrote with grace—

But How Prolific Was He?
Hold your breath, dear seeker true—
For what I now recite to you:
He wrote over 6,000 poems. True!

In total, it’s said he penned up to 170,000 lines—
In scraps, on paper, in holy signs.
He died in 1979, shot in strife—
A martyr’s end to a poet’s life.

With Chinmoy, Tagore, and Lope’s fire—
Yet with a mystic’s heart, and monk’s desire.
Not the most known, perhaps—but aye,
One of the most prolific, ‘neath the sky.

A soul of ink, of love, of faint—
Now causes rise to make him a saint.
