We Leave as We Came

From the moment you came, without earthly attire,
to the day of departure, when life’s light expires,
empty-handed you arrived, with nothing to possess;
empty-handed you’ll leave, with no worldly excess.

In weakness, you entered this worldly domain;
in weakness, you’ll leave it, with nothing to retain.
Then why harbor hatred, envy, or pride,
when all that you hold must remain where it lies?

All that we gather—material and grand—
will remain behind in this earthly land.
We earn it here, and here it must stay,
when we depart on our final day.

But one thing we leave that will truly transcend:
a legacy of love that will never end.
Compassion, humility, gratitude’s grace—
kindness and helpful deeds leave their trace.

Empathy shown becomes a legacy’s spark;
God’s Spirit within us illuminates the dark.
The virtues we’ve nurtured will surely remain
in hearts we have touched and lives we have changed.

For on the day of departure, when all has been said,
love and kindness carry us forward instead.
These precious virtues, we live and impart,
shape our journey and touch every heart.

Leaving behind a trail of goodwill,
a legacy others may carry still.
Blessed is the day when we truly comprehend:
in giving and caring, our spirits transcend.

So let us embrace this blessed day,
and in Jesus find our way.
For in the end, when all is said and done,
love is the legacy—the victory won.
