Can we but give guilty to be kind
Victory is Progress and is unique, History is regress and is oblique.
and worth sharing this table, and worst is carrying the fable.
Because radiance is turbulence, because cadence is an ambulance.
Defeat means there is always potential, to cheat gleams, all says “Too crucial”.
In the river of what you have, Is the giver for what you gave.
In the inevitability of decline, and see and live ability of the mind.
Believing the wheels know to swerve
Freedom is knowing that existence Be them showing resistance,
holds something good, Folds as it should
in the fragility of abundance, Into the futility of redundance.
Captivity is seeing through the window, Happy T.V. is being in a show.
That the outlook is possible, that is mistook for loss capable.
Even when it feels slow to emerge, Of leaving the peels—go to the dirge.
Be applause women incense in thee
With hope you are confined to imagination, Elope to far behind, through the station,
Within narrow walls in a house, That thin sparrow in a blouse,
where solitude is momentum. Spare altitude in moments in time.
Despair limits trees capable of growth is care in its threes, stolen in worth,
because luminescence is whimsy We cause those in science flimsy.
These poems develop through echoes passed between two columns. A phrase may return as rhyme, half rhyme, a pun, or rearranged syllables; it may also change through an opposite or a freely associated idea. The columns let the reader see the relationship while hearing how familiar language slips into something unexpected.
The writing moves back and forth across the page. The ending of a sentence on the left becomes the beginning of one on the right. Its new ending then generates the opening of the next sentence on the left, continuing the chain. One writer can follow both sides, or two or more can share the exchange. The title offers a final echo of the closing phrase, bringing the process back around. In the examples that follow, sound sometimes holds the connection together even as the sense takes another direction.
