Autumn Leaf Peeping
Red-around the base through cautious trails I go,
To glimpse the gorge that waits in cyan mist below,
Where vapor’s ghostly flow obscures the deep,
Yet silver shimmers faint, as though the air might weep.
The ravine’s sides brown-muddy-steep-rising grow
From dissolving mist-moist, reveals autumn beauty rare—
A prospect faint in light, a yet forest-vision fair.
A hamlet nestles green-gold amongst the trees,
Its mist like chimney smoke curls into the cloudless sky.
The river sings its song, gurgling to the breeze,
And leaps from rocks where oaks grow thick and high.
Trails wind around the mountain’srocky base nearby,
my cadence slow, the path a thin silver thread.
Beyond, white-capped peaks stand bold against blue sky—
An autumn tapestry of green and gold and red,
Where wood and water meet, and all the world is spread.
